One potential issue that may arise in the future is Nostr’s reliance on a single signature algorithm. A likely trigger for this could be the introduction of post-quantum signature algorithms. Once the decision to adopt such algorithms is made, the existing Nostr ecosystem will face a fork in its development path between pre-quantum and post-quantum approaches, with some older clients and relays remaining permanently on the pre-quantum path.
